Risk Management: Approaches for Fixed-Income Markets by Bennett W. Golub, RISK MANAGEMENT APPROACHES FOR FIXED INCOME MARKETS "Golub-Tilman will, I believe, become an absolutely essential reference text for fixed income portfolio managers, traders, issuers, and scholars. It is comprehensive and clearly written. While rigorous, it is easy to understand because of its many practical examples." Richard Roll, The Allstate Chair in Finance and Insurance, The Anderson School at UCLA, Past President, American Finance Association "Outstanding and unique! A thorough discussion of the theoretical underpinning of risk management combined with keen insights from a practitioner’ s perspective. This text will rank among the most essential readings for both market professionals and academics." -Gregory J. Parseghian, Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, Freddie Mac "The most systematic and comprehensive overview of fixed income risk management."-Philippe Jorion, Professor of Finance, University of CaliforniaIrvine, Author, Value at Risk: The New Benchmark for Controlling Derivatives Risk "An inside look at approaches to fixed income risk management developed at a leading investment firm. The rigorous presentation covers both theoretical and practical considerations as well as their applications to portfolio management. Very interesting and highly recommended."-Charles W. Grant, Managing Director of Fixed Income, Virginia Retirement System "Few, if any, financial studies have managed to reconcile practical market experience and scientific discipline within such an original approach and with such elegance! An absolute must for anyone in the world of fixed income."-Michele Donegani, Head of Asset Allocation and Manager Selection, EuropeanInvestment Managers (EIM).
Microscopic Simulation of Financial Markets: From Investor Behavior to Market Phenomena by Haim Levy, Microscopic Simulation (MS) uses a computer to represent and keep track of individual ("microscopic") elements in order to investigate complex systems which are analytically intractable. A methodology that was developed to solve physics problems, MS has been used to study the relation between microscopic behavior and macroscopic phenomena in systems ranging from those of atomic particles, to cars, animals, and even humans. In finance, MS can help explain, among other things, the effects of various elements of investor behavior on market dynamics and asset pricing. It is these issues in particular, and the value of an MS approach to finance in general, that are the subjects of this book. The authors not only put their work in perspective by surveying traditional economic analyses of investor behavior, but they also briefly examine the use of MS in fields other than finance. Most models in economics and finance assume that investors are rational. However, experimental studies reveal systematic deviations from rational behavior. How can we determine the effect of investors' deviations from rational behavior on asset prices and market dynamics? By using Microscopic Simulation, a methodology originally developed by physicists for the investigation of complex systems, the authors are able to relax classical assumptions about investor behavior and to model it as empirically and experimentally observed. This rounded and judicious introduction to the application of MS in finance and economics reveals that many of the empirically-observed "puzzles" in finance can be explained by investors' quasi-rationality. Researchers use the book because it models heterogeneous investors, a group thathas proven difficult to model. Being able to predict how people will invest and setting asset prices accordingly is inherently appealing, and the combination of computing power and statistical mechanics in this book makes such modeling possible.
Asset management - Asset management is the method that a company uses to track fixed assets, for example factory equipment, desks and chairs, computers, even buildings. Although the exact details of the task varies widely from company to company, asset management often includes tracking the physical location of assets, managing demand for scarce resources, and accounting tasks such as amortization. Tracking system - In virtual space technology, a tracking system is generally a system capable of rendering virtual space to a human observer while tracking the observer's body coordinates. For instance, in dynamic virtual auditory space simulations, a real-time head tracker provides feedback to the central processor, allowing for selection of appropriate head-related transfer functions at the estimated current position of the observer relative to the environment. Digital asset management system - A digital asset management (DAM) system is a (software) system used to organize and process digital assets like images, documents and presentations. Vehicle tracking system - Current Vehicle tracking systems have their roots in the shipping industry. Corporations with large fleets of vehicles required some sort of system to determine where each vehicle was at any given time.
